Our Mission

The Winnemucca Indian Colony is a federally recognized Tribe located within Humboldt County, Nevada. The Colony has been deprived of the use of its lands for nearly 22 years since the assassination of its Chairman in February 2000. This Colony has fought for these lands and for the right to govern its lands. The government was recognized by Regional Director Jessie Durham, on January 11, 2022, after twenty-one years of litigation. That recognition paves the way for the reclamation of the Colony’s lands and the membership looks forward to a peaceful and prosperous community. The Winnemucca Indian Colony is a sovereign government proudly preserving its traditions as a part of the Western Shoshone nation.

Law and Order Information

The Tribal Law & Order Act helps to address crime in tribal communities and places a strong emphasis on decreasing violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women. The Act encourages the hiring of more law enforcement officers for Indian lands and provides additional tools to address critical public safety needs.
